I will go back to Thailand before the end of this month and will have a look again at the 222SR, even if I seriously doubt on the overall conditions of the engine.
It would be certainly a great thing to have a Maserati in BKK.

If not I will then go for the 156 Selespeed that can still be purchased at a decent price and does not present any major problem concerning maintenance.

Well, the selespeed system is not the most reliable of the lot (particularly ealy models). I used to have a 147 SS and it ran fine but lots of people on an Alfa forum I moderate have experienced problems.

You may be able to find an automatic though (Q-System).

The only model that was imported in Thailand is the selespeed.
Alfa even started a small CKD assembly operation in 2003 but with little success.
The version you can find are all with the selespeed,however,according to a couple of people that are driving Alfas in BKK, the gearbox is not giving any particular problem.
There is on the contrary some concern over the effectivness of the AC due to the higth temperature and humidity

well...you know...Far East has its own appeal....I would not trade a sunset in Phuket or the exciting nigthlife of Bangkok for any other place....
Is always a good idea to have a car especially during the rain season where getting a taxi is harder.Of course I would not buy an insignificant japanese vehicle, but a little italian toy which could give me some driving sensation,especially driving on the way to the seaside outside Bangkok.
