Maserati 222 SR problem
Hi,
I've just bought myself a 91 Maserati 222 SR with a
2.8 liter engine. The car had been not driven for a year. It is in good
condition, but the engine has some troubles.
When I first
test droved it, it started badly and idling was very bad when the
engine was cold, but when the engine got warmed up, these problems were
gone.
Yesterday the car was delivered to me. The problems
mentioned earlier were not gone but they were not so serious anymore.
So I went for a drive. Got to drive about 3km and then when I lifted
foot off gas pedal the engine stalled. It started again when I tried,
ran for about 1-2 sec and then again stalled. Started it again, and the
engine didn't stall if I pressed gas pedal a little, so I got do drive
to nearby gas station with car few more times stalling. But after that
when it stalled in the gas station it didn’t start again. There were no
weird noises, the car just died and didn't start again.
Any ideas what could be the problem considering that the car hasn’t been seriously driven for about a year?
I also need to do cam belt change, so all good sites for parts would be
helpful, because I live in Estonia and we don't have a local dealer
here and it's on of the first Biturbos here.

Hi Vigri! And welcome to Reparto Corse 2!
I'm not very practised about mechanical issues, so probably I will not able to solve your problems with your 2.22, but I will try to give you some advices..
The fact that the car has been stopped for a long time time (you say that it hasn't been seriously driven for about a year) isn't a positive thing, because these cars need an utilization quite frequently or, if no used for a long time, like in this case, a regular maintenance, to be preservedserved in a good state.
The sostitution of cam belt is surely a good idea, because this is a mechanic part very delicate. I suggest you the sostitution of the water pump too, cause in this case can cause problems.
Unfortunatly I don't know any web site where finding Maserati spare parts, so it'necessary asking to the other members of tis forum..
But in Estonia there are no Official Maserati Distributors to whom ask this informations?

vicino alla stazione di benzina con auto più volte pochi stallo. Ma dopo che
quando è bloccato in stazione non ricominciare. Non ci sono stati
strani rumori, la vettura appena morto e non ricominciare.
Tutte le idee su ciò che potrebbe essere il problema visto che l'auto non è stata seriamente guidato per circa un anno?
Ho anche bisogno di fare cam cintura di cambiamento, per cui tutti i siti per le parti sarebbe
utile, perché io vivo in Estonia e non abbiamo un rivenditore locale
e qui è il primo di Biturbos qui.

HELLO Virgin, you can start with doing a clarification of the engine:
- Replacement candles
- replacement petrol filter
- Replacement air
- replacement oil filter and engine oil
- cleaning the tank with petrol extraction of fuel old
- adopt a clean injectors to be paid in the tank to transactions concluded
- verify trafilaggi of engine oil or coolant in the combustion chamber.

The work is in progress on the car. The fuel pressure seems to be little low so meybe the problem is there.

congratulations for your new lonely car.
Shurely the failure you noticed was related to the fuel feeding, and you confirm a low fuel pressure.
Regarding a site where to buy spare parts, the nearest to you that I know is in Germany.

Fuel pressure is about 3 bar, so that shoudn't be the problem. But the spark plugs were black so it indicates that car was running rich mixture before. What could be the cause of it?

Hi,
I got the car running finally. The problem was in the coolant temperature sensor. I also changes timing belt, engine oil, coolant, brake fluid and had some more little thing done. Now the car runs well. Thanks to all for help you provided.

the car now daily for about a week, and it runs great. But there are also some
problems left.

speedometer doesn’t show the speed correctly, when I drive at 100 km/h
speedometer shows 70 km/h.
·
The
fuel level gauge only shows maximum of ¼ of the tank even if the tank is full.
·
When
the air conditioning is turned on it started to blow in bad stink but when air conditioning
is turned off it stops. Does it have somewhere an air filter for air
conditioning unit or what might be the problem?
I have used

Hi,
When I was doing over
radio contacts something in passenger side door made a really loud
click. After that the central locking doesn't work any more. When I sit
in and shut the do something near glove compartment makes some roaring
(can't find a better word) noise for a second or so and then it stops.
But when one door is locked and other is not and the doors are closed
that same sound appears again but is constant and doesn't go away after
while.
Did some investigation
and found out what is making that noise and it seems like central
locking control unit. Module is made by "bitron video", and has P/N
2043018 on the case. It also bears # 549.197 on the case. I also checked
all the fuses in the main fuse box and all 14 of them were OK.
After some further
investigation found the right fuse, and it’s OK. There are also cigar
lighter and door open lights under that same fuse. Also it has 12 V when
the ignition is turned on. But when I measured the voltage on cigar
lighter contacts then there was only 0,5 volts and it was there weather
the ignition was on or off.
It seems like a bad
contact somewhere but I have no idea where to search from.
Maybe you have a
electrical schema for this model?
